College Dublin was established in 1974 as a centre for Business and
Accounting training. The college quickly developed a reputation for the
outstanding examination results of its students. Since that time, GCD
has expanded to the areas of Computing, Journalism, Business, Finance,
Law, Interior Design and Hotel Management and established itself as
Ireland’s largest independent college with 9, 000 full and part-time
students, including 1000 international student from 66 countries around
the globe.
Courses GCD offers postgraduate courses in Computing, Journalism and Business,
including an MBA in International Business Management and a M.Sc. in
Computing. Undergraduate courses are available at degree, diploma and
certificate levels in Computing, Business, Accounting & Finance, Law,
Design, Journalism, Photography, Video Production and Hotel Management.
GCD also offers pre – university foundation programmes. All or GCD’s
faculties have won multiple awards of excellence through the work of
their staff and students. Its European degrees are validated by the
Irish Government’s validating body HETAC (The Higher Education &
Training Awards Council) and by its UK partner, Nottingham Trent
University.
HETAC HETAC is the Department of Education & Science, Government of Ireland
validating body. The HETAC awards are recognised throughout Europe as
being of university equivalence. GCD is one of the leading colleges
under the HETAC system.
Nottingham Trent University (NTU), UK Nottingham Trent University is ranked among the 10 leading business
schools in the UK. NTU has validated the MBA and MSc in International
Business Management programmes and has also been the College’s partner
in the development of Ireland’s largest Law School. GCD is ranked as
NTU’s number one international partner.
Premier Plus Status College of the ACCA The ACCA (Association of Chartered Certified Accountants) has named GCD
as one of the leading ACCA colleges in Ireland and has conferred GCD
with “Premier Plus” status. This title has been awarded to GCD because
of consistently outstanding results achieved by GCD students over the
years.
Association with Industry & Business Griffith College Dublin has close association with Industry and Business
and has placed many of its international students on short-term paid
work internship programmes, particularly in the software and IT
industries. The College’s strong links with industry stem from the fact
that many of GCD’s former students are in executive and
middle-management positions within the leading companies in Ireland and

International Links Griffith College Dublin is proud of its international links. GCD has
colleges in Pakistan and Russia, runs joint programmes with universities
in China, and has agreements with universities in the USA, Canada, South
America, South East Asia and Europe.
International students The College has an ever-increasing number of international students with
1, 000 students from more than 66 countries registered for on-campus
programmes. GCD’s International Office is devoted entirely to the needs
of the international students in the College. International Office
advisors are available all year round for advice on every aspect of
international student life including visas and residency in Ireland,
accommodation, and social and academic issues.
Griffith Institute of Languages (GLI) Over the past decade GCD has offered English language tuition to many
overseas students prior to the commencement of their third-level studies
in the College and now the College has formally established the Griffith
Institute of Languages to specialise in the teaching of English.
Students can study General English programmes and can also undertake specialist
English tuition with a focus on areas such as IT, Business and
Photography, thereby gaining the benefit of the College's vast
experience in these specialised areas.
On-Campus Facilities On-campus facilities include an extensive and up-to date library,
computer and electronics laboratories, student common rooms, bar and
restaurant, college gym, video and film editing rooms, two radio
stations and several photographic dark rooms. From 2005, the College is
expanding with the addition of a 750-seater auditorium, Dining Hall and
underground Car Park.
Accommodation Accommodation is available in the Griffith Halls of Residence, the
College’s new custom-built accommodation facility. The apartments offer
comfortable, modern living in buildings designed to reflect the
historical significance of the campus as a whole. One, two and three
bedroom apartments are available. There is 24-hour security, which means

Students’ Union The Students’ Union represents students’ interests and the general
welfare of the student body. The Union also takes an active interest in
ensuring that students enjoy their time at the College from both an
academic and social perspective. Each year the Student Officer and the
Students’ Union organise a number of events to promote student
integration including Freshers’ Week, Rag Week, the annual GCD Ball and
GCD Sports Day, to ensure that each student has the opportunity to
participate in all campus activities.
