Learning Support Programme
St Andrew's College was founded in 1894 by members of the Presbyterian community in Dublin. The school was originally located in the centre of the city, but in order to acquire the additional space needed to cope with continuous expansion, a new site in Booterstown, a residential suburb on the south side of the city , was acquired in 1971, inaugurating a period of unprecedented development. The College is now an international, co-educational, multi-denominational school which caters for approximately 1,200 students whose ages range from 4 to 18.

Facilities include 56 classrooms, four tutorial rooms, five science laboratories, three computer rooms, five art rooms, a home economics room, a music department, junior and senior libraries, dining hall, multi-purpose hall, sixth-form centre, modern sports hall, and extensive playing fields.

Operating within the Irish education system, St Andrew's is recognized by the Department of Education and Science. It is also fully accredited by CIS and NEASC.

The school aims to provide a balanced, liberal education which, while encouraging high academic achievement, ensures a supportive environment for pupils with a wide range of abilities and aspirations. The academic programme culminates in the Leaving Certificate and International Baccalaureate Diploma exams, in which students regularly achieve results which exceed the national average. Over 90% of students are offered places in universities and other third level colleges in Ireland and abroad.

A professionally-staffed counselling and career guidance service is provided, and students who wish to take them are prepared for College Board Tests (PSATs and SATs).

Languages taught include Irish, French, German, Spanish, Italian, Russian and Latin. Many other languages are taught within the context of the European School, set up in 2001 to cater for the needs of children of EU Commission personnel based in Ireland. There is an EFL department to assist new students whose first language is not English. The sports programme includes rugby, hockey, basketball, soccer, swimming and tennis, and this is complemented by many co-curricular activities such as choir, orchestra, drama, MEP and MUN. Educational, sporting and cultural trips to locations of interest in Ireland and abroad are organised throughout the year. Pupils are admitted to the College on the basis of a published set of criteria and, where practicable, personal interview.
